Arts and Cultural Centre Site, Southbank Marina

Southbank Marina will be home to the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival stage. Showcasing
a mix of local musical talent, circus acts with exciting fire shows and dance, there will also
be tasty food stalls, exhibitions and market stalls for all to enjoy.


Acts include The Acutones, Itchycoo Park, The Glasgow Gospel Choir

and Samba Ya Bamba. Don’t miss the Saturday night
Fireworks Finale at 10pm
.

Four trips offering a great introduction to some fantastic wines
(wine courtesy of Sainsbury’s, Kirkintilloch).

7.30pm -  Ghost & Ghoul Canal Trip

An interactive boat trip (2 hours approx), hosted by the team at the Spirit of Glasgow.

Discover spooky stories and the scary history of Kirkintilloch’s
notorious cemetery.

The trip will arrive back at the Southbank Marina in time for the fireworks finale.

On-board music – a fantastic atmosphere is guaranteed as you
enjoy lively music against the backdrop of the Forth
and Clyde Canal.

Southbank Marina

Forth and Clyde Canal Exhibition
Extensive display exploring the history of the Forth and Clyde Canal and

its impact on Kirkintilloch.  From its beginnings through to the industrial boom,

the gradual decline and the current revitalisation.

The Story of the Lion Foundry
A major exhibition documenting the history of the Lion Foundry.

The exhibition includes extensive archive photographs
of the foundry, the objects it created, and the people who worked there.

The Thomas Muir of Huntershill Exhibition

A selection of paintings, pictures, photographs, rare books and a
presentation of Muir’s Story through song and story,

by Davie Waterson and John Watson of Huntershill Village, Bishopbriggs.

12 to 4pm - Canal Festival Cup

Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre

Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre - Soccer 7’s football tournament, organised by Kirkintilloch Leisure

Centre in partnership with the SFA; spectators welcomed to check out the

action and see what’s on offer at the Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre.

9 to 5pm - Canoe Trips and Bushcraft for Beginners

Southbank Marina/The Stables (by prior arrangement only - 0141 777 6211)

Wild By Nature are offering guided canoe trips and bushcraft for beginners,
departing from either Southbank Marina or the Stables by arrangement

Police Station - the event will be introduced by representatives from East Dunbartonshire
Council and Strathclyde Police, followed by the exciting street parade,

kicked off by the Sheboom drummers.

12 to 4pm -  Romans in Peel Park  

Kirkintilloch’s World Heritage Site will be abuzz with activity and entertainment,

featuring Funfair rides, environment/ heritage stalls and displays and fantastic food stalls.

The dazzling street parade will also finish here!

12 to 4pm -  Police Action Open Day  

Join Strathclyde Police at Kirkintilloch Police Station, who will be

hosting a variety of fun activities and demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

Massive Crowds Flock to Celebrate 10th Annual

Kirkintilloch Canal Festival

Kirkintilloch Town Centre welcomed huge crowds over the

weekend of Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August as

the town once again embraced the renowned Kirkintilloch Canal Festival.

Celebrating its tenth year, the Canal Festival welcomed over 25,000 visitors to a variety of venues

across the town, who enjoyed a full programme of live music, heritage displays,

arts and crafts stalls, a Farmers Market, funfairs, boat trips and

a variety of waterside entertainment at the Southbank Marina.

The Festival kicked-off on Saturday evening at Kirkintilloch’s Southbank Marina,

where a programme of live music saw headliners the Glasgow Gospel Choir and

Samba Ya Bamba joined by Itchycoo Park and local band the

Acutones, and was rounded off by a fantastic Canal-side fireworks display.

The Festival’s grand opening took place on Sunday afternoon,

marked in spectacular fashion by the Roman-themed street parade,

where local community groups joined to celebrate the town’s Roman

heritage and to mark the designation of the town’s Peel Park as a

UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On the Canal, visitors were treated to boat trips, water displays

and try-out sessions and the opportunity to experience the

British Waterways Waterwalker, whilst the Renfrewshire Farmers Market Association

offered a host of locally sourced, organic produce at their market

on Union Street.  Visitors also enjoyed funfairs, an arts and crafts

market and Homecoming Scotland Heritage Exhibitions,

featuring the Forth and Clyde Canal, the Lion Foundry and Thomas Muir of Huntershill.

On Saturday evening, The Festival Stage on the Arts and Cultural Centre, Southbank Marina, will play

host to live performances from The AcutonesItchycoo Park,

The Glasgow Gospel Choir and Samba Ya Bamba.
