In April 2015, the new £7.7 million build Lairdsland Primary School opened its doors for the first time on the site east of Strathkelvin Place at the Southbank Marina, Kirkintilloch to 266 very excited pupils.
Lairdsland is the first primary school project to be delivered under the Primary School Improvement Programme and was chosen as a pilot project by the Scottish Government and East Dunbartonshire Council due to the poor condition of the previous school building and has been chosen as the reference design for Scotland.
Each part of the new primary school is designed to support Curriculum for Excellence. The school uses flexible, open learning spaces as well as classrooms. There are also covered outdoor learning areas for all pupils, and a range of small and large group work spaces. These spaces can be used by teachers as they need them, for music and art lessons, class teaching, project work, and individual learning. In addition, the new classrooms include LCD touchscreens supported by Wi-Fi throughout the building. Another new feature is an outside Multi-use Games Area (MUGA) pitch which will be used for physical education and pupil health and fitness.
We will be offering tours of the school each half an hour starting from 12pm until 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
